It was the 3/7/03, I was fishing on Mid Kents "Handle Lake" which is part of the Milton Complex.
It was 08.15am I was on my mobile phone just finished sending my love to my Son (aged 7) and my Daughter (aged 10).While I was talking to my wife the line started leaving my reel at a rate never seen by me before, "got to go love sorry" I said.
Well by now the old heart rate has gone up some what and I am thinking "My First Carp OR a record Tench". I knew this was something different by the way my rod was bent, nearly double.
I managed to keep it away from the far margin, then my mobile goes again! Text message this time, it said "Put the kettle on Bert on my way up" Tony Baker no less, so here I am its 08.30am now, rod in one hand mobile in the other texting Tony back. "Might be a bit difficult at the moment"
At 08.40am Tony arrives, "Have you seen it yet" he said, as it splashes out 12 feet from the bank. What a sight, what a feeling, words could not describe it.
After some fighting both ways giving line and taking some back its in the net, a shake of my hand and a cuddle from Tony. We got some great pictures, a beautiful 20lb 4oz fully scaled mirror carp.
After the fish was returned the kettle was put on to try and let it all sink in.
